Beyond the Page: My Life in Eorzea

What a crazy and fun return this has been.

For future reference, I will be posting my character page with all my job levels to track progress, but so far, let’s just say this journey started with Sage at level 70, Astrologian at level 82, Reaper at 70, and I did not have Dawntrail unlocked or purchased (I wanted to make sure I was going to enjoy playing again before committing).

Anyways, after a solid week of trying to remember how to move hotbars around and put skills where I wanted them, where I was at in the story, and what I was working on, I finally... Finalllllyyyyy started making some ground.

Since there was only a very small section of MSQ to do, I just ran that with my DNC and got it ready for the Dawntrail section.

Also, quick side note: I might offer my feelings on the MSQ, but I am not going to put any videos up or give my thoughts on specific story events. I don’t want any spoilers on my blog, and I won’t give them! EVER!

I started by deciding that I wanted to try a new healer. Since I was relearning everything from scratch anyways, why not try a new job to go with it? The first time I played, I was a tank main (WAR), then switched to healer, AST, and loved that. I stuck with that for a while, then I leveled a DPS job, Dancer, so that I could do these dungeons and learn the mechanics before having that pressure of not being able to die land squarely on my shoulders! (Spoiler alert: I still die.)

But let me introduce to you, Petrovana Freyja (for this month, change incoming!).

And yes, the most coincidental thing ever is that when I originally created a character back in 2013, Petrovana was one of my favorite names. It was a name that I just happened to make up for my current book I’d been writing, Talon Born, though it never saw production. It was a futuristic sci-fi novel...

Anyways, this is about Eorzea, not writing.

But that’s the name origin. Freyja was just another one of my favorite female names, and yes, I play a female character because she was supposed to be the main character before Leper showed up. Plus, he’s my PlayStation avatar, so it was taken anyway.

MOVING ON!

So I started running Sage and doing lower-level dungeons at first to learn the buttons, and then started just slamming it. Before long, I was 80, then 85, then 90, and absolutely LOVING playing Sage.

There were some crazy dungeons and trials (yes, Abyssal Fracture, nobody likes you) where I died, the other healer died, and at least four DPS died multiple times, but we only lost one tank and were able to keep it rolling for a clear on the first attempt.

(Sweaty hands.)

After Sage, I thought I wanted to try another DPS class, so I unlocked Reaper because I was a huge fan of Dark Knight in eleven because of the scythe, and why would that personality trait change now?

That’s right, it wouldn’t.

So enter job number two that I absolutely fell in love with.

In the second portion of the video, I have some clips of running Great Gubal Library, and on the first boss fight, the book, we lost our healer when it slammed down on the first rotation. But Petrovana does not falter. She knows at her heart she is a healer, and when the book flipped around again, she whipped out that beautiful orange feather and gave him a dose of Phoenix Down.

And instead of wiping?

That’s right. We brought it alllllllllllll the way back!

Let that be a lesson to you DPS’ers out there! Carry Phoenix Down because you never know when it will come in handy!

I had it happen to me as Sage when I died during a dungeon. Out of nowhere, our Monk whips out some Phoenix Down and literally saves the progress. The tank ended up going down, but we quickly got our wits about us, and Petrovana saved the day yet again!

She also became quite the crafter and gatherer, leveling all classes (except Fisher, because for some reason, Fisher sucks?), which honestly is a good question because I simply never bothered with fishing. Anyway, question for another time, but I took all crafters and gatherers from 80 to 90 as well.

Then my new in-game friend Enoki graciously gifted me Dawntrail for my birthday (what a dawg), so now we’re going to work on getting the MSQ completed and check out this new FC I joined!

Hopefully it goes well!

Running some dungeons as I was learning Sage and Reaper, I promise I will get better at getting footage :)

I’m looking forward to meeting new people, making some new friends, and absolutely destroying this MSQ so I can start farming those mathematics!

Until November!

Happy adventuring!

-Petrovana
