Hello, and welcome to Beyond the Page: Other Realms.

My name is Aaron Yoder, and some of the things I’ve always enjoyed doing throughout my life are gaming, playing sports (mostly volleyball), and hanging out with friends and family.

Another thing I like to do, when I find an author I like to read, a band or musician I like to listen to, a football or volleyball player I like to follow, or a gamer I like to watch on Twitch, is read about their daily life. What are they like? What do they do in their spare time? Do they have kids? In other words, are they normal like me (I know, I know, that’s subjective), or some kind of weirdo?

So, in this space, I want to post about what I am doing. Did I attend a volleyball tournament, and how did it go? Did I play video games with the crew all weekend? How much fun can one person have at one time, exactly?

There will be one column that I want to stay on top of, and that’s the subject of my first entry and sub-blog title: My Life in Eorzea.

As a young adult, when Game Informer was still around, there was a column written by someone (and I wish I could remember his name) about his monthly trials and tribulations in Final Fantasy XI. Every month, I looked forward to getting that magazine just to read that article. Then I’d toss it in the garbage because I was so enthralled by that game and what other people did in it.

Did they grind like I did or struggle to get past the Maat fights as a Red Mage as well? (Grrrrrrrrrrr.) Or were they more laid-back? All of it was very intriguing to me and made me realize, as a writer myself now, why not put my return to Eorzea on my own blog for fellow gaming buddies to follow along?

I gotta say, though, as someone who started this game when it came out, I wasn’t about to start from level one, ground zero, the bottom of the barrel, and work my way back up. With the schedule I have, I would’ve given up in two days or less. I don’t have the time or energy to put back into getting all the Aether Currents, doing all the MSQs, the raids, the gear farming, the leveling, and the gathering...

It makes me want to quit now just thinking about it.

Moving on... before I continue down the path of trepidation.

I will post blogs here, but the only one that will be on a schedule is My Life in Eorzea. It will come out monthly with progress reports about what I did, who I met, what I’m working on, and, of course, some videos and screenshots of the chaos!
